A New Hope Against the Weight of the World

Satsuma Mandarin Orange

Japan’s dietary heritage provides a unique advantage in harnessing carotenoids like β-cryptoxanthin to address obesity. Japan has long led research on β-cryptoxanthin, particularly from citrus fruits such as Satsuma Mandarins orange.
A fruit deeply rooted in its food culture. β-cryptoxanthin is a natural nutrient abundant in orange-colored fruits, especially Satsuma Mandarin, known for its powerful antioxidant.

Thailand's Leadership in the Fight Against Obesity
Changing the System for Healthier Lives
7 March 2025
Global obesity levels are accelerating - already affecting over billion lives and projected to rise even higher by 2050. Southeast Asia once symbolized balance, simple diets and active lifestyles. Today, rapid urbanization rising incomes, and the influence of global food culture have shifted that balance, giving rise to a growing obesity crisis.
According to the WHO’s 2025 Report, 42% of adults and 13-15% of school-aged children in Thailand are now considered obese. The trend particularly alarming, as obesity continues to escalate rapidly, posting a serious threat to the health of future generations.

Citrus unshiu was cultivated in the early Edo period about 400 years ago.It is thought to be a variety that grew accidentally from citrus fruits introduced from China.
Mikkabi Town (Shizuoka) is an area where there are many mandarin orange farmers, and the amount of mandarin oranges consumed is widely distributed.
People who eat a lot of mandarin oranges (High intake of β-cryptoxanthin)
-
Low risk of elevated γ-GTP in alcohol drinker
-
Low risk of liver dysfunction in hyperglycemic patients
-
Low arterial stiffness assessed by pulse wave velocity
-
Lower risk of insulin resistance
-
Bone density is higher in menopausal women
-
Lower risk of metabolic syndrome

What is β-cryptoxanthin
β-cryptoxanthin is a type of carotenoid that act as both an antioxidant and, a provitamin A.
Support overall wellness, well-studied for it role in fat metabolism, it activates beige fat cells, helping convert white fat into energy-burning tissue, supporting healthy body composition and reducing fat accumulation. It also helps lower LDL cholesterol, strengthen bones, improve liver function, and promote clearer skin by inhibiting melanin production.

β-Cryptoxanthin promotes the “Beigeization” of white adipose tissue - transforming stored fat into energy - burning cells. It induces the expression of UCP-1 (Uncoupling Protein-1), a key marker that triggers the browning of white adiposcytes.
-
White fat cells accumulate fat
-
Brown adipocytes break down fat and produce heat to maintain body temperature while also playing a role in regulating the body’s overall energy balance
-
By expressing uncoupling protein 1 (UCP1), white adipocytes undergo browning, produce heat and burn body fat
About the mechanism of β-cryptoxanthin of fat cells

Excess energy acuumulates excessively as neutral fat, and white adipose cells become enlarged. As a result, triglycerides in the liver and skeletal muscle increase, resulting in dyslipidemia. It also lead to arteriosclerosis and high blood pressue.

β-Cryptoxanthin reduses the size of white adipose cells and increases the number of white adipose cells of small size. In addition, white fat cells become beige. as a result, triglycerides such as liver and skeletal muscle are normalized

Clinal Studies

Unlike other phytochemicals, β-CRP is known to be easily absorbed and accumulated*1 in the body when ingested orally. For this reason, long-term continuous ingestion of even small doses is still effective.By using the Cryptobeta with the standardized β-CRP compound, it becomes possible to have a continuous intake of β-CRP even during periods when mandarin oranges are limited or out-of-season.
*1…In clinical trials using cryptobeta, β-CRP concentration in blood significantly increased in the β-CRP group that ingested cryptobeta
